The history of Babbi is the history of a family.

In the very heart of Romagna, an Italian region rich in tradition and in gastronomic-culture, Attilio Babbi founded the Babbi Confectionery Industry for the production of cones, wafers and ingredients for Gelato makers in 1952.

Thanks to the genuine raw materials and the freshness of the ingredients, Babbi soon became a pillar in the Gelato Industry.
Babbi Confectionary Specialties production began few years later, when Attilio Babbi smartly decided to create another line of products during the winter season, when the Gelato machines slow down.

Attilio immediately understood that the right placement for these Specialties was far from the mass-market products; he indeed devoted his firm to the creation of “unique and quality Confectionery Specialties”, produced with noble, genuine and refined raw materials and through a long, accurate and artisan process.
This is how Viennesi and Waferini were born and are today well-known and truly appreciated all over the world.

After many years of experience in this sector, in the late 1940s he started producing ingredients for Gelato in the very heart of Cesena. His goal was to make the summer walks down the Romagna’s streets more pleasing for everyone. In 1952 he then finally founded the Babbi Confectionary Industry for the production of cones, wafers and ingredients for Gelato Makers.

Later on, Attilio was joined in the conduction of the firm by his son Giulio, who expanded Babbi’s business net beyond the Romagna boundaries. The start-up of the new unit of the firm dedicated to the production of Gelato and superb desserts was then carried on by Giulio’s sons: Gianni, Carlo and Piero. Thanks to them and to the exclusivity and originality of its products, Babbi was awarded with the title of “the Legend of the Gelato Italian-style”.

In the production of our Specialties, we only use nobles and natural raw materials that have been selected and measured according to the Italian artisan tradition and then worked through procedures which are respectful of the environment and consistent with the needs of the consumers. The creation of spreads, the pasteurization of the aromatic pastes and the baking of wafers are the secret beyond the superb taste of our Specialties.

Since the foundation of his firm, Attilio Babbi wanted to stay away form the mass market, which was already full. He saw the right placement of Babbi in a specialised and more élite market, and this is where he started to spread his Specialties, initially the Ingredients for Gelato and then the Confectionery Products. It took a short time for the market to understand the uniqueness and preciousness of Babbi and its products. Their taste and flavour, together with their superb ingredients treated by skilled hands, give them a value which goes far beyond the simple “sweetness”. Since 1952 Babbi has wisely invested in research and technology in order to improve its production. Babbi food specialists catch every hint from the market and every evolution in taste in order to be able to offer an excellent, modern, innovative and superb solution to its consumers. Research and development are two main components of Babbi, together with a strong devotion to “what there was once upon a time”. One eye on yesterday, one eye on tomorrow and the head focused on today: this is Babbi!

Babbi believes that the quality of its products is an essential principle. This is why the company performs a constant and almost obsessive selection of raw materials.

Babbi carries out internally all stages of production: dry fruit roasting, paste refinement, permanent internal quality checks. Babbi also obtained many quality certifications such as ISO 9001, the reference standard internationally recognized for the management of the Quality. The company has been also inspected and authorized by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and allowed to export in the USA.

In addition to product quality, the company pays great attention to its own consumers, their food habits and their demands that constantly develop both for health and cultural requirements. Many products are gluten-free and are certified and included in the AIC (Italian Celiac Association) reference book; the company also obtained VEGAN OK certification for products suitable for a vegan diet, the Kosher certification and the Halal certification (WHA).
